Tenth Avenue North

Last night a couple friends and I went to the Matt Maher, Addison Road and Tenth Avenue North concert at the fair. Not only was the music and worship great, but God had us there for a different reason.

During one of the set changes, Jason, a member of Tenth Avenue North, got up on stage and shared with everyone the problem of modern day slavery. Everyone sitting on my row starts freaking out! He shares about the broader issue, including laboring of children and the work that Compassion (www.compassion.com) is doing to help. After he got off stage we got a chance to share with him what God is doing in our lives and how He is growing SOS into something bigger than we never dreamed it would be. He was very encouraging.

They had fair trade t-shirts for sale that were made by women freed from sex-slavery in Calcutta, India. There was no way I was going to walk out of that concert without one.

So, after all this happened we finally made it back to our seats and they shared a video from Compassion, Mike got up on stage and shared a truly heart-felt message proclaiming the Gospel to the hundreds gathered last night. Only God knows who needed to hear that, He knows who was listening. It was awesome. Well, he then shares how we are called to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners according to Isaiah 61:1-3.

We were so overwhelmed by the power and majesty of our King, we could not help but to fall on our faces and worship. God was using this band to speak about something near to His heart to hundreds who were ready to listen. I believe that because of the work God is orchestrating, the diligent work of His people, and the faithful prayers of many, the Church can make a difference and change the face of slavery by the life-changing power of Jesus Christ. I pray that this fallen world could be set free from slavery to sin and become slaves to righteousness (Romans 6:18)!

Tenth Avenue North is all about “Breaking the Chains Apart.” Stopping slavery forever. May we, as the Body of Christ join together with them in this fight to end human trafficking.

Thank you Tenth Avenue North for sharing with us the call of our GOD!
